BUZZARDS BAY – Cilantro, a juvenile grey seal which was found injured and stranded in Chatham last May, will be released into the wild tonight after being rehabilitated at the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay.

According to the center, the seal had suffered an infection on a spot where he was heat-branded by Canadian researchers. This is the first branded animal the Marine Life Center said they have treated.

He was also treated for tubeworms and an abscess on one of his rear flippers.

After being tube-fed, Cilantro transitioned to eating whole fish and officials at the Center said it is time for release.

The seal will be released at 7 p.m. at Scusset Beach in Sandwich.

Cilantro is the third seal the center has rehabilitated since January.
