DENNIS – Until now, Cape Cod had several different Relay for Life Teams, groups of individuals that form into teams for 24 hours to raise money for cancer research.

Beginning this year, Upper Cape, Mid Cape and Lower Cape teams are coming together in a united front as they complete their relays.

Adopting a Disney theme, this year’s event is called One Cape, One Relay and Once Upon a Cure.

“Now we are just going to have the Relay for Life Cape Cod, combining all of the volunteers and all of the participants, we just think it will make a bigger impact on the mission and make a bigger event more fun,” said Relay for Life Community Manager Susie Frost.

On Cape Cod, Relays for The Cure began 21 years ago, the event started at Dennis- Yarmouth High School’s athletic track.

Teams continue to camp out for 24 hours during the Relay where volunteers and participants come together in a spirit of camaraderie against the disease.

2018’s event will be held on June 16th and 17th

According to organizers, new teams, volunteers and corporate sponsors are needed for this year’s Relay.

Upcoming fundraising events include a Holiday Craft Fair and Gingerbread House Workshop on December 2nd at the D-Y Senior Center. Participants must have a spot reserved prior to the event.
