HARWICH PORT – Outer Cape Health Services is preparing a major expansion of its footprint in Harwich.
A renovation is set to begin late this fall on the old Thompson’s Market building on Route 28 in Harwich Port.
The facility will become the organization’s new headquarters for treatment services on the Lower Cape.
“These communities here on the Lower Cape are the largest demand area for us,” said Pat Nadle, the CEO of Outer Cape Health Services. “We’ve been in the Outer Cape areas and have expanded services there for many, many years.”
The organization has locations in Provincetown and Wellfleet on the Outer Cape, and a small five-room facility on Chatham Road in Harwich.
Nadle said the demand for services on the Lower Cape continues to grow.
“This area down here has lots of families, lots of need – little providers,” Nadle said. “We get lots of calls.”
Nadle said the Harwich center gets at least 10 calls on a normal day from people in the region seeking doctors.
“In a two day period a couple of weeks ago we had 45 calls,” she said.
The new center will help accommodate some of that demand with 18 treatment rooms, along with administrative offices on the second floor.
“We’ll have three times the capacity that we currently have which will allow us to provide all those services that we provide on the Outer Cape towns to these towns that we serve, which will be huge,” Nadle said.
Outer Cape Health Services hopes the new center on Route 28 will be open in early fall of 2019.
