BOSTON – Freshmen State Representative Dylan Fernandes is settling into his new position on Beacon Hill, taking on special causes related to the region.

The 27 year old Woods Hole Democrat, who represents parts of the Cape as well as both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, has been pushing environmental efforts.

During his first speech on the house floor, Fernandes thanked his supporters.

“I want to personally thank the residents of my district for sending me here to advocate for them, I’m truly humbled have their support., he said”

Fernandes’ fist sponsored bill, encouraging the commonwealth to sign on to the Paris Climate Accord, received prodigious support, pasting in the house by a 136 vote margin.

“I filed this bill back in January, in anticipation of president Trump pulling out of the agreement,” explained Fernandes.

“By withdrawing,  America will join Syria as the only nation in the world not signed on to the Paris agreement.”

Fernandes said the bill is more about sending a message to Washingtin D.C. that he, and the Commonwealth, take rising temperatures seriously.
