Rep. Whelan Completes Elite Fellowship Program

BREWSTER – Massachusetts State Representative Tim Whelan of Brewster participated in the Council of State Governments’ Henry Toll Fellowship this past summer, and is now applying what he learned on Beacon Hill.

The six-day intellectual boot camp was designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth, as well as forward thinking an open-mindedness – something vital in politics.

“We had democrats, republicans, independents, progressives, conservatives, and we all had to work together cooperatively to achieve the goals that were laid out in front of us,” Rep. Whelan said.

Rep. Whelan was one of 48 officials from 32 states chosen to take part in the program, and while working across the aisle is something that Whelan already is known for, he says he has the tools to encourage his colleagues to broaden bipartisanship, and work for a common goal.

“It’s given me more appreciation of the benefit of just setting politics aside and doing what’s right for the people,” Rep. Whelan said.

The Toll Fellowship represented all three branches of state government, and has been educating state officials for more than 30 years.
