Whelan Receives Legislator of the Year Award

State Rep. Tim Whelan (R-Brewster) receives a 2019 Legislator of the Year award from Mother Against Drunk Driving.

BOSTON – Brewster Republican State Representative Tim Whelan has been recognized by the national organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving as a 2019 Legislator of the Year.

Whelan and his office have worked closely with MADD on several pieces of roadway safety legislation, including H. 150 “An act further strengthening public safety through interlock devices.”

Whelan was presented the award at the State House by MADD Massachusetts Programs Director Mary Kate DePamphelis on behalf of National President Helen Witty.

“I’ve spent decades working to keep our roadways safe and fighting the scourge of impaired driving while serving on the Massachusetts State Police”, Rep. Whelan said in a statement.

“For almost four decades MADD has been at the forefront, leading the way with advocacy, education, supporting victims and families, and working with enforcement to help end these preventable tragedies. I am proud to stand with MADD and am deeply humbled by this very kind recognition of the work my office is doing to help save lives, prevent injuries, and keep families whole”.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a nonprofit organization that seeks to stop drunk driving, support those affected by drunk driving, prevent underage drinking, and strive for stricter impaired driving policy,

MADD was founded in 1980 and operates at least one office in every U.S. state and Canadian province.
