BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts child protection agency says it is already working on correcting problems cited in a report that criticizes the agency for not doing more to protect a 2-year-old girl whose body washed up on a Boston Harbor beach in June.
The Department of Children and Families responded to a report issued Wednesday by the independent Office of the Child Advocate about the handling of 2012 and 2013 neglect reports in the case of Bella Bond.
The department received reports that the girl’s mother, Rachelle Bond, was neglecting her. The report says DCF failed to thoroughly investigate the reports.
DCF said system-wide reform is underway, including increased management oversight of cases.
Rachelle Bond’s boyfriend is now charged with murder in the girl’s death. Bond has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.
