Report: Health Care Costs in Massachusetts Exceed Benchmark

ThinkstockPhotos-164939541BOSTON (AP) — A new report says spending on health care in Massachusetts rose at a faster rate last year than state officials had hoped.

The Center for Health Information and Analysis said in its annual report released on Wednesday that health care expenditures — private and public — totaled $57 billion in the Bay State in 2015. That’s a 3.9 percent increase from 2014, when total spending was $54 billion.

It exceeded the 3.6 percent benchmark established under a 2012 state law aimed at reining in health care costs.

However, the rate of growth in total health care spending in Massachusetts las year was still less than it was in 2014. It was also less than the U.S. as a whole.
