BUZZARDS BAY  – An encouraging report by the Buzzards Bay Coalition reflects a pause in the decline of local waters.

For the first time in over a decade, nitrogen levels in the areas’s waterways did not experience an increase, according to the State of Buzzards Bay report.

According to the coalition, nitrogen is the biggest threat facing the resource.

Overall the bay received a health grade of 45 out of 100 in the latest study.

Since 2003, the study had detected increasing levels of the pollutant until now.

To create the study, the coalition works with scientists and land use experts to compare current and historical data.
