FALMOUTH – Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket Representative Dylan Fernandes has secured $225,000 in local earmarks for parts of the Cape and Islands.
The funding efforts will be comprised of $175,000 in Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties for shellfish propagation, a program touted by shell fishermen and environmental activists alike as a way of stimulating the local economy and cleaning up waterways.
Fernandes has also secured $25,000 for water quality improvements in the town of Falmouth, as well as an amendment devoting $25,000 to mental healthcare and substance misuse treatment on Nantucket, a problem which has been severely affecting the Cape and Islands in the last few years.
Now the budget for fiscal year 2019 will be debated in the Senate, before being finalized in conference committee later this spring.
