HARWICH – Harwich Selectmen have approved the placement of a reproduction of the Milton Welt Mural in the town’s community center.
The mural, which depicted the culture and heritage of Harwich, was displayed on the walls of Harwich High School since 1964.
It came down last October as crews demolished the high school to make way for Monomoy Regional High School.
Welt, a well-known artist and former selectman, dedicated the mural to the first graduating class of the school, which included his daughter.
The Milton Welt Mural Committee looked into relocating the mural, but they were unable to come up with the funding needed, estimated to be $173,000.
