Rescheduled Ukulele Fest Happening On The 25th

SANDWICH – The Annual Ukulele Fest that was cancelled because of Winter Storm Riley, has been rescheduled for the 25th.  It will take place from 3-5 at Sandwich Town Hall.

The ukulele, a member of the Lute family, generally employs four strings but can have up to eight.  It gained great popularity in the United States in the early 20th century and from there spread out internationally.  The tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction with most being one of four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone.  They can be acoustic or electric.

One reason for its current popularity is the music of Jake Shimabukuro, a young virtuoso who can hold his own with the greatest guitarists around.

This year’s theme is “#1 Hits”, which will be performed by several local groups including The Zukes, Unlikely Strummers, Cotuit Center for the Arts All Stars, The Steve Gregory Household and Susan Anarino’s Dolphin Ukulele Ensemble.

The show will feature seasoned players along with students of all ages.

It is being presented by the Sandwich Arts Alliance and Score Music Studio.
