ORLEANS – The Division of Marine Fisheries reached a milestone on Monday when the 21st white shark of the season was tagged.

The shark was the 100th tagged off the coast of Cape Cod since 2009.

The 13-footer tagged off Orleans was named Casey by DMF’s Dr. Greg Skomal and John Chisholm.

The shark was named after pioneer shark researcher Jack Casey.

Researchers tagged 24 sharks off the coast of Cape Cod last year and are in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.
