CHATHAM – Researchers have reached double digits in white shark taggings off the Coast of the Cape this year.

State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal, working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, tagged the tenth shark of the season Wednesday off Monomoy – an 11 footer.

The Conservancy is in the third year of a five year white shark population study and tagged 24 sharks in 2015, which was an increase from 18 in 2014.

Last year, 141 great whites were identified in Cape waters which was an increase from 68 in 2014.

Of the sharks identified last year, 101 were sharks that had not been previously spotted.
