CHATHAM – Researchers tagged the twentieth great white shark of the season today off Cape Cod.

State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal, working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, tagged the 15-foot shark off the coast of Chatham.

The shark was outfitted with a combination acoustic and pop-off satellite archival tag.

The conservancy is closing in on last year’s total of 24 tagged sharks, and is in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.

Eighteen white sharks were tagged in the first year of the study in 2014.
