TRURO – Researchers with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy were busy Monday as they tagged three great white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod.

State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal tagged a 15-foot shark off Truro, an 11-footer off Nauset North and a 12-footer just south of Nauset Public.

The three taggings raised the season total to 17. Last year researchers tagged 24 white sharks in Cape waters, which was up from 18 in 2014.

The Conservancy is in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.

According to the Chatham Shark Center, 98 sharks have been tagged off the Cape since 2009.
