WAQUOIT – A community shellfishing day will be held in Waquoit next Sunday to celebrate National Estuaries Day.
The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Falmouth Department of Marine and Environmental Services will host the September 16 event that will include tours of the oyster aquaculture research site in Waquoit Bay along with several activities for the family.
The event includes a shellfish petting zoo, story corner and hands-on science with oysters, microscopes, magnifiers and more.
The celebration, at the Reserve’s headquarters on Route 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, a beach chair or blanket and their own bottle of water and a cup.
