Residential Building Activity Rises on Cape Cod

CENTERVILLE – There was a significant uptick in residential building activity in Barnstable County last month, according to the latest numbers made available by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

481 building permits were issued April, totaling more than $47 million. That was up from 336 in April of 2016, totaling just over $27 million.

The vast majority of residential projects on the Cape last month were remodels. There were 422 remodeling permits issued, up from 322 last year. The total value of this April’s remodels, $19.4 million, was down from last year, $20.6 million.

Remodeling projects include additions, renovations, decks, garages, sunrooms, porches, and other alterations.

61 permits were issued were new building efforts, with the average cost running at just over $454,000. The average price for new builds last year was over $466,000. There were only 14 permits issued in April 2017.
