Residents Get Chance to Tour New Hyannis Fire Department Headquarters

HYANNIS – Cape Cod residents braved the rain and cold on Saturday to get their first look at the new Hyannis Fire Department Headquarters.

The $18.5 million facility opened last year, replacing the aging building that was located next door.

“It’s really a great opportunity for us to give back and allow them to see, what they’ve essentially bought and paid for, so we’re really proud to do that,” said Fire Chief Peter Burke.

The new station includes 12 independent bunk rooms for fighters, with room for expansion if needed over the next 50 years.

Amenities also include a heated concrete floor, triage room, kitchen and a double entrance layout that includes seven apparatus bays.

“It’s just so important to be in a space that’s functional and works for our firefighters as they serve the community,” said Burke. “We really can’t thank them enough for it and for all the hard work that got us here.”

The open house also included a dedication ceremony and demonstrations from the firefighters.
