BOURNE – The 102nd Intelligence Wing at Otis Air National Guard Base is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the initial operating capability of the installation’s newly completed energy independent microgrid system.
It takes place on Wednesday.
The system’s energy is based almost entirely on renewable sources, which ensures a high level of security to the grid.
In addition, it can be used as research opportunities for the private energy industry. The project was paid for as part of a $6,000,000 grant from the Defense Department’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program in 2015.
The system was constructed in a public private partnership and assists the Wing with its intelligence mission to provide intelligence for installations around the world.
The ceremony marking the completion of the grid will take place Wednesday, August 29th at 10:00 am.
