Rights Commission Forwards Beaty Complaint to Election Officials

election boxWEST BARNSTABLE – A complaint about the election results of the Town of Barnstable Old King’s Highway Historic District Committee by Ronald Beaty Jr. of West Barnstable has been forwarded to state election officials.

The Barnstable Human Rights Commission, who received the complaint from Beaty last week, took no action. Instead, said Elenita Muniz of the commission, the board decided to forward it to the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Beaty has already contacted state election officials complaining about what he says were irregularities with the way the election was held.

Beaty lost the election by a vote of 216 to 15. He originally said he would not challenge the results but subsequently changed his mind. He is now asking for a new election and has also requested information from Barnstable Town Clerk Ann Quirk to begin the process to start a recall petition against town councilors.

Barnstable Town Councilor Ann Canedy campaigned in favor of Beaty’s opponent in the Old King’s Highway election.
