ORLEANS – A quick fix will be done to the Rock Harbor bulkhead in Orleans so the harbor can be used this summer.
An inspection revealed that the bolts that go through the steel plates and into the ground are rusting out and failing, according to Orleans Selectmen John Hodgson.
“We think we have a low cost fix to get us through the season which is to sort of dig the area out to take the pressure of the bolts so the bulkhead stays in place,” he said.
Selectmen did not want to have to close some or all of the harbor for the upcoming summer season.
“It won’t be as pretty this summer but it will allow our charter boat fleet and those others that have boats in there to use the harbor,” Hodgson said.
Hodgson said at least a portion of the bulkhead will have to be replaced and major work is expected to start in October.
