Route 28 in Harwich Closed After Morning Accident

PoliceHARWICH – Route 28 in Harwich is closed between North Road and Mansion Street today after a woman driving an SUV struck a utility pole this morning.

Police and fire crews responded just after 8 a.m. and found the pole snapped and the Toyota Highlander unoccupied.

The driver ran from the scene and was found an hour later and about three quarters of a mile away, according to Harwich patrolman Aram Goshgarian.

She was arrested for allegedly driving drunk, operating to endanger and fleeing from the scene of an accident.

Goshgarian said the Harwich fire chief left the scene and saw a women walking and notified police of the possible suspect.

A small number of power outages in Harwich occurred as a result of the accident.
