Sagamore Bridge Painting Project Extended, Lane Closures Continue Until February

sagamore bridgeSAGAMORE – Motorists eagerly awaiting the end of lane closures on the Sagamore Bridge will have to wait an additional two months.

The completion of the painting project on the span has been delayed, which means sporadic lane closures are set to continue through the early parts of the new year, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

“Although the painting project is about 95 to 99 percent complete, there is still some painting that needs to be completed,” said Corps Spokesman Tim Dugan, citing cold weather and rainy conditions as the reason for the extension of the project. Plans originally called for work to wrap up at the end of the year.

Dugan said that lane closures in January and February will be on an as-needed basis.

Motorists will see a reprieve from lane closures over the holidays, with no work scheduled until January 5th.
