Sailing Opportunities Plentiful Along Buzzards Bay

BOURNE – The sailing destination of Buzzards Bay is home to several yacht clubs and community boating organizations.

Several of these clubs and organizations on the bay off group and private sailing lessons for children, teens and adults – and many are located on Cape Cod.

In Bourne, Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Summer Sailing School provides activities on and off the water for kids ages 10 to 18; Bourne Community Boating offers an eight-week youth summer sailing and marine science school, along with adult sailing lessons; and the Buzzards Sailing School on Wings Neck is open to youth ages 8 to 18.

Falmouth also offers many options for residents.

Chapoquoit Yacht Club offers three programs that range in skill level from ages 7 and up; Quissett Yacht Club offers instructional programs for adults and youth on Quissett Harbor; and The Woods Hole Yacht Club Sailing School offers group and private lessons for children and adults for seven weeks during the summer.

For the second straight year, the Buzzards Bay Coalition will offer youth sailing lessons on Onset Bay for children with the Boys and Girls Club Wareham Summer Program, Gleason Family YMCA and Wareham CARE.
