Sales Activity Increases, Value Flat in Latest Real Estate Numbers

house for saleBARNSTABLE – Newly released real estate numbers for Barnstable County show an uptick in activity to start the summer, but also value falling flat compared to last year at the same time.

The volume of sales was up 12.2 percent from June 2014. The total value of sales was up 8.6 last month, but the median individual property sale value was flat, falling 0.7 percent compared to last June. The median sales value for Barnstable County is $330,000.

“We had a nice strong June, volume-wise, probably making up for the fact that we weren’t as busy in May,” said Barnstable County Register of Deeds Jack Meade.

Sales volume and value for the first half of the year are hovering around even.

There were 17 foreclosures in June, up four from last year. The number of foreclosures, however, remain down in 2015 compared to this time in 2014, with a nearly 11 percent drop in foreclosure activity.

“We’re back from the abyss. We’re not back from where we were a few years back. We have a ways to go before we get back to a really, really strong market,” Meade said.
