EASTHAM – This year marks 100 years since the establishment of the National Park Service.
This year’s film festival showcases silent films from the last century and later films they inspired.
On Sundays at 1:30 p.m. a number of free movies will be played at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.
On January 24, the Visitor Center will screen the 1916 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”.
The silent sci-fi classic is based on the Jules Verne novel that recounts the tale of the notorious, power-mad Captain Nemo.
On January 31, the 1959 movie, “Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles” will play for audiences at the center.
Holmes and Watson are called in to get to the heart of the mystery in the ageless classic, about a mysterious death and rumors about a demonic hound roaming the fog-shrouded moors.
On February 7, a historical drama titled, “The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc” will be screened.
The 1999 film captures the life, moral convictions and death of the young French girl who came to be known as Joan of Arc.
Additional films that will be shown at the center include the 2012 movie “Snow White and the Huntsman” on February 14, the 1992 film “Chaplin: The Movie” on February 21 and on February 28 the silent film “Ben-Hur”.
