Salvation Army Seeking Help for Holiday Programs

HYANNIS – With Christmas rapidly approaching, the Salvation Army is still looking for help with its holiday programs to ensure that needy families across Cape Cod have a memorable and bright holiday.

The Salvation Army runs two programs in particular that address the gift needs for children. The Dress A Live Doll matches a donor with a child, who buys clothing for the child, and because the program is for children 12 and under, the Salvation Army also runs Teens Love Christmas, which provides gifts, mainly in the form of gift cards, for teenagers.

“We don’t like to see the 14-year-old left out of Christmas,” said Major Cynthia Brown of the Hyannis Salvation Army. “So we started this program Teens Love Christmas, where we try to give a gift, most of the time it is a gift card that we give.”

In addition, the Salvation Army is still looking for donations for its food pantry and soup kitchen, as well a boost in the most recognizable form or donation for the organization – the red kettles found outside of dozens of retail establishments. Any donation goes to help fund programs on Cape Cod.

“All of it stays on the Cape,” Brown said. “Not one penny goes anywhere else but to the programs that the Hyannis Salvation Army runs.”
