SANDWICH – Sandwich’s Assistant Town Manager is moving into a new role as the town administrator in Rockland.

Doug Lapp was one of the three finalists for the position before being the unanimous choice of that town’s selectmen.

Rockland selectmen said that they were impressed with Lapp in how he took time to visit the town and attend an economic development forum.

“I felt like what an opportunity to catch lightning in a bottle, he had a ton of energy,” said Rockland Selectman Michael O’Loughlin.

Sandwich police and fire chiefs, along with Sandwich selectman David Sampson, provided references to Rockland town officials.

According to Rockland selectmen, they all gave great recommendations of Lapp.

“You can really see it in his face and personality that he’s well aware of what’s going on in Rockland and what needs to be done,” said Rockland Selectman Kara Nyman.

Lapp said that he hopes to stay with Sandwich until late June.

The town plans to take at least three to four months to advertise and interview candidates for Lapp’s position.
