Sandwich Chamber of Commerce Hosting Veterans Salute Tonight

SANDWICH – The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce is hosting a fundraiser Friday night to honor and support active and veteran members of the military.

The event features a night of comedy with comedian Wayne Soares and off-Broadway performer Toscano of New York City with songs from the American Songbook, jazz, and Broadway.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the American Legion Vietnam War memorial to be installed beside Sandwich Town Hall.

“I think that anybody that has a family member that is a Vietnam veteran knows that this was a really underappreciated segment of our population, and when they came back they had to endure a lot of hardship. I personally have members in family and they won’t talk about it,” said Teri Stanley, the Executive Director of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce.

“I think it’s important and I’m glad to be part of a community that has decided that we do want to honor them and the sacrifices they made. I think that it’s appropriate to have it next to the other monuments that are next to the Town Hall. That’s a very highly visible place where people are driving and walking in the town, so I think it’s a great spot for it.”

Proceeds will also be designated for the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, a local non-profit that provides programs and services that support military service members of the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, and U.S. Army National Guard, as well as their families.

“We all know that the military is a great opportunity for people, but it doesn’t pay much,” Stanley said.

“It’s great that we can give back in any small way, especially those of us who have not served, to be able to support those who area. We’re really excited to be hosting a salute to the military.”

The fundraiser will be held at the American Legion Post 188, located at 20 Main Street in Sandwich. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a red carpet experience, followed by a 7:00 p.m. show time.
