SANDWICH – Former Massachusetts Governor and Democratic Presidential Candidate Michael Dukakis was the keynote speaker at the 13th Annual Meeting of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

U.S. Congressman William Keating, Plymouth-Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo and Sandwich State Representative Randy Hunt attended the event, which was held at Sandwich Taverna.

The Sandwich Chamber also handed out awards to recipients, including the Merrell Award for Volunteering, the Public Servant Award and the Leo Manning Award as Ambassador for the town.

Dukakis discussed transportation and infrastructure in the state during his keynote address.

“I love the Cape but these are important times needless to say, and it isn’t just the presidential election, there are things to do in this state, and one of them is to invest in this state’s infrastructure, I’m very concerned with what’s going on,” said Dukakis.

Dukakis added that the ongoing issues with the MBTA are one of his concerns.

He also gave his opinion on the current presidential election.

“I cannot imagine this guy Donald Trump leading this country and I hope a good majority of Americans agree with me otherwise it will be a very difficult four years,” said Dukakis.

Congressman Keating said he was happy to participate in the Sandwich Chamber’s annual meeting.

“The local chambers, they’re partners in my efforts in government and I think it’s important to keep that relationship going because that’s how you can work for solutions, that’s how you can find, in your particular area, what’s the most important economic issue,” said Keating.
