Sandwich Democrat Seeks 5th Barnstable State Rep Seat

Sandwich democrat Jack Stanton announced his candidacy for the 5th Barnstable District State Representative Seat.

SANDWICH – A Sandwich Democrat has thrown his hat in the ring to challenge for the 5th Barnstable District State Representative Seat currently held by Republican Randy Hunt.

26-year-old Jack Stanton has worked for the last 3 and ½ years in the development sector and recently returned from Mozambique where he spent 15 months working for a startup global research consultancy.

He grew up and was educated in Sandwich Public Schools and graduated from George Washington University in 2014.

Stanton says he hopes to help restore the public’s confidence in government.

“I’m frustrated by the lack of civic engagement and people’s participation in government and I think that it is really paramount that people get more involved and take interest in issues which impact their lives,” Staton said.

Stanton hopes to enact change at the local level, where he said things can get done.

“Being frustrated by the political situation I decided to throw my name in the ring and try to do something positive,” he said.

Stanton would not answer any questions about the current incumbent or his policies.

“I’m not really looking that far into it right now,” he said. “I’m just trying to make the case on my campaign and the organization we are building out is going to be able to create the most effective representation for the people of the 5th Barnstable District.”

The district is made up of Sandwich, two Barnstable precincts, three precincts in Bourne and one in Plymouth.

A campaign kickoff event is tonight at 6:30 at Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis.
