Button from 2016 Sandwich First Night Celebration
SANDWICH- First Night Sandwich will no longer commence in the town after event organizers say they are too exhausted to continue. The announcement came May 16th after the committee was supposed to create the layout for the popular event.
First Night normally features glass sculpture displays, clowns, jugglers, musicians, decorations, and more spread throughout the town. Local residents also participate in the event by putting lit candles in the windows of historic homes.
The town is saying however that if another organization would like to step in and run the event, current organizers would gladly pass along all pertinent information as to how the celebration is run, and would also train the new organizers if required.
Sandwich First Night was started by Melinda Gallant and Neila Neary back in 2012, these ladies were also credited with helping to create First Night events in other Cape towns in Falmouth, Provincetown, and Orleans.
No word yet on new organizers who would like to pick up the event.
