PLYMOUTH – Sandwich and Plymouth are among 23 Massachusetts communities in line for state funding for pedestrian and bicycle improvements.
The Baker-Polito Administration announced $5.5 million in Complete Streets awards in a ceremony on Friday in Winthrop.
“We are proud to announce the latest round of Complete Streets awards to support efforts by cities and towns to upgrade their transportation infrastructure,” said Gov Charlie Baker. “The Complete Streets program enables our municipal partners to improve their roadways, sidewalks, multi-use paths and intersections, so that our infrastructure works for everyone, whether they are driving, cycling, walking or using public transit.”
$200,000 will go to Plymouth to install ramps and sidewalks along Allerton Street. The funding will support the town’s master plan to improve walking routes downtown and improve pedestrian access to tourist attractions.
Sandwich will receive $200,000 to make sidewalk improvements on Sandy Neck Road.
Examples of projects eligible for funding through the complete streets program include sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, new signage, improved street lighting, and new intersection signals.
