SANDWICH – After being in the works for several years and getting voter approval during this past spring’s town meeting, projects to build a new police station and fire substation in Sandwich are moving forward.
Project manager Taylor McDonald recently met with the town’s board of selectmen, saying that not only are the site surveys and schematic design estimates complete, but bidding should begin this spring, with construction starting soon-after.
“Our bidding we plan to be complete May 1, and our construction duration being 14-16 months, with a completion date of September 1, 2018,” said McDonald.
The police station and fire substation will be built at Quaker Meetinghouse and Cotuit roads, and the project also includes an upgrade to the Route 6A fire headquarters.
Voters approved a $17 million debt exclusion to fund the project.
