Sandwich School Committee to Vote on Reconfiguration Tonight

election boxSANDWICH – Members of the Sandwich School Committee will vote on an elementary school reconfiguration plan tonight.

Superintendent C. Richard Canfield’s proposal calls for the town to split up its kindergarten through sixth grade configuration.

The proposal comes in the wake of the Henry T. Wing’s school impending closing. The plan calls for kindergarten through second grade to be held at the Forestdale Elementary School, with grades three through six at the Oak Ridge School.

Some parents in town have expressed opposition to the plan, preferring the two elementary schools to remain K-6.

School committee chair Travis Andrade said he will cast his vote in favor of Canfield’s plan; partially due to declining MCAS scores. Andrade says he is not sure how his colleagues will vote on the matter.
