Sandwich Town Clerk Apologizes for Facebook Posting

computer screenSANDWICH – Sandwich Town Clerk Taylor White is apologizing today for comments he made last night on his Facebook page that were seen to be disparaging of Muslims.

White made the comments after reading an article he saw on Facebook about the restaurant Sneakers in Winooski, Vermont. The restaurant chose to remove a humorous sign it had posted on a public traffic island about bacon after a woman complained about it. The woman identified herself as a vegan and a Muslim.

“There was a comment that I had made in response to an article. The comment was inappropriate. It was crass and I apologize for making the comment,” White said.

White said he did not make the posting during his work day at town hall.

“It was done after hours, sitting around and looking at all the fun stuff on Facebook and unfortunately my comments were made public. They were inappropriate and I do ask for forgiveness to the people of Sandwich and beyond for the comments that were made,” he said.

White said he hopes people do not judge his career on this mistake.

“I certainly don’t hold any animosity towards anyone. Certainly those who know me personally and professionally know that I’ve done a great job for many, many years in this town. I hope this one mistake on my part, and I do admit it was a mistake, will not tarnish things moving forward. And again, I do apologize for the incident and I do ask for forgiveness,” he said.

White has removed the comment from his Facebook page.
