SANDWICH – Sandwich Selectmen held a fiscal 2018 budget summit workshop with the school committee, finance committee and capital improvement planning committee on Thursday night.

The goal was to begin the conversation about the upcoming budget session in order to facilitate a smooth budget preparation and address priorities.

“This is kind of a prep, looking at slightly different things than the regular operating budget, which will be coming up in December,” said Selectmen Chair Susan James.

Items that were covered during the meeting included reviewing the budget process for the FY 2017 budget season, reviewing capital needs and identifying important budget drivers.

For Selectmen, long range plan top priorities are beach erosion prevention, public road infrastructure and re-use of the Henry T. Wing School.

Secondary priorities for the town include the library facilities, the consolidation of municipal offices and pedestrian/bike path improvements.
