Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll to Feature Santa Claus and Outdoor Skating

HYANNIS – The annual Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll will take place today with a full day of events and activities planned.

A much anticipated addition to this year’s events is the “Little Lorusso Skating rink”, an outdoor rink that will be located in the 500 block parking lot.

People can bring their own skates or use a pair of the free loaners. The surface is actually made of a plastic that performs just like a sheet of ice.

Ice sculptures will be carved in front of the JFK Hyannis Museum by a local artist named “Chip.” Member of the Hyannis Rotary Club will read Christmas stories and candy cane making demonstrations will take place at Kandy Korner.

“The day always starts out with breakfast with Santa at the BBC,” said Eliabeth Wurfbain, the executive director of The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District.

The two seating’s will be at 9:00 and 10:30. Tickets are $8.00 and must be purchased in advance.

Regarding one of the days most anticipated events, Wurfbain said, “Santa arrives by antique firetruck at noon in front of Bella.”

The man in the red suit will  hold a meet and greet at that location until 1:00, then move on to Katie’s Ice Cream from 1:30-2:30.

Wurfbain said there will also be a petting zoo and music up and down the street.

The music will include a live band, D.J.s and an a Capella group.  The talented Barnstable High School special needs program will have their fun, custom made wreaths on street poles along Main Street.

Weather permitting, Santa will make another arrival, this time by boat at 5:00, as part of the decorated boat parade which starts at 3:15.
