WOODS HOLE – Santa Claus may be known for using a sleigh to get around, but he’ll be arriving by research vessel this year for his annual visit to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium.
The special event, on Saturday, December 15, provides an opportunity to visit when the Aquarium is usually closed, as well as enjoy some special activities.
Santa will arrive aboard the Center’s 72-foot research vessel Gloria Michelle at 11 a.m. and is hoping to see a large crowd on hand to greet him.
The Aquarium, operated by NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center, is located at 166 Water Street in Woods Hole and will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the special event.
The Aquarium invites everyone to view special exhibits arranged for the occasion, have their picture taken with Santa, and participate in arts and crafts activities. Among the special exhibits will be an octopus, part of the Marine Biological Laboratory’s Cephalopod Initiative.
The Aquarium’s live collection includes species of marine fish and invertebrates that are found in waters off the Northeastern U.S., including seahorses and some tropical species that are carried north by currents as well as invasive species.
