BOURNE – The American Bus Association has named the Annual Scallop Fest as one of the Top 100 Events in North America for 2016.
This is the sixth year the festival has received the distinction, which came from an experienced expert tourism industry selection committee.
Inclusion in the Top 100 list indicates that the fest offers excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers, according to the ABA.
“The attractiveness of the Annual Scallop Fest as a don’t miss entertainment value is only part of why its selection this year is such a distinction for East Falmouth,” said ABA President and CEO Peter J. Pantuso. “The real news here is that the Annual Scallop Fest has been recognized as a potential magnet for tourism dollars, at a time when reenergizing domestic tourism is so important to our spirit and our economy.”
According to studies completed by researchers, one overnight visit by a motor coach group can leave up to $25,000 in a local destination’s economy.
“Tour groups spend more and stay longer,” said Pantuso. “That’s why the Annual Scallop Fest is truly a local economic asset. There is no better way to jump-start tourism than to attract motorcoach groups to a great event and convince them to extend their stay.”
ABA’s 2016 Top 100 Events Selection Committee selected the Annual Scallop Fest from hundreds of event nominations submitted by ABA members.
Next year’s Scallop Fest takes place on September 23 to 25.
