Scallop Fest Organizers Putting Out Call for Volunteers

EAST FALMOUTH – The 48th annual Cape Cod Scallop Fest is just a few short weeks away and organizers are reaching out to the public for volunteers.

Scallop Fest – ranked as one of the top 100 events in the country – is organized each year by the Cape Cod Canal Chamber of Commerce and is scheduled for September 22nd through the 24th at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth.

Putting on the successful program requires roughly 500 volunteers, with 5-hour shifts available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for servers, hospitality hosts, bus greeters, runners, and more.

Experience is not necessary, and volunteers are offered preferred parking for the event. They will also receive a free volunteer T-shirt and free admission into the Fest, as well as a discounted scallop or chicken dinner for only nine dollars.

“We need 500 volunteers to make the Scallop Fest work,” said Marie Oliva, President and CEO. “The only requirement is giving your time to the community while having fun.”

Oliva said that the Scallop Fest is looking for first-time volunteers to supplement the individuals and company teams that return year after year. “Working at the Scallop Fest is a great team-building experience; that’s why so many companies recruit their workers to help.”
