FALMOUTH – The Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole will continue its series of “Science Before Supper” talks early in February.

“Genie Out of the Bottle: Biological Feedbacks and the Acceleration of Climate Change” will be presented by Jerry Melillo, a distinguished scientist for the MBL.

Melillo is an ecosystems ecologist that has spent decades providing a scientific foundation for environmental policy.

He was chairman of the federal advisory committee that prepared the Third National Climate Assessment which was presented at the White House in 2014.

“There is a widespread understanding now that climate change in recent decades is the result of human activities,” said Melillo. “You can’t make sense of the global data on climate unless you invoke human activities.”

All of the “Science Before Supper” talks by MBL scientists are designed for non-scientists and are free and open to the public.

The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 4 at 5 p.m. at the Falmouth Library.

The final presentation in the series of talks will be held on March 24.
