BOSTON – A seafood manager in New Bedford has been sentenced to one year of probation, 10 months of which will be served in home confinement. The sentence comes as a result of a tax evasion conviction.
Orlando Cardoso, 44, failed to report $75,000 in earnings on his 2012 and 2013 returns. He was also ordered to pay $24,998 in restitution to the United States government.
In November of last year, Cardoso pleaded guilty to two counts of filing a false income tax return. He had sworn on those documents that his total income was strictly what he received from his employer, hiding the fact that he received over $75,000 in cash and checks from his employer’s suppliers.
The case was prosecuted in Boston’s federal court by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen P. Heymann of the Economic Crimes Unit.
