Seal Rescued During Storm Recovering at National Marine Life Center

Saco the Seal

BUZZARDS BAY – A seal rescued during last weekend’s storm is rehabbing at a local animal care center.

The National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay is now taking care of “Saco,” a weanling gray seal who was rescued from the side of the road in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

Officials say Saco became exhausted and dehydrated while dealing with the storm and was picked up by the Seacoast Science Center Marine Mammal Rescue team near Brown’s Lobster Pound in Seabrook on Monday.

Since his arrival in Buzzards Bay, Saco has received oral IV fluids and an opportunity to rest.

He has spent plenty of time in the pool at the center, an activity he “loves,” according to the organization’s social media posts. Saco has been consuming two bottles of Pedialyte each day and the center is asking for donations.

Officials say they are “guardedly optimistic” that the seal will recover.
