Seaside Le Mans Announces Beneficiaries for 2018 Race

SOUTH YARMOUTH – Five local non-profit organizations have been announced as the beneficiaries of this year’s Seaside Le Mans Race.  The annual fundraising event is scheduled for September 8th at Mashpee Commons.

The race, presented by The Davenport Companies, runs for four hours and takes the drivers through the streets of the Commons.

Race Director Kelsey Ellis said the drivers can look forward to some serious machines.  “The carts are formula one European style carts.  They go over 50 miles an hour, three inches from the ground,” she said.

Aside from the race, there are many family activities to be enjoyed.  One new event this year will be the attempt to assemble 240 bicycles in the 240 minutes that the race lasts.  The finished bikes will be donated to local children.

Ellis is excited about the process and the race’s success to date.

“We select five new beneficiaries each year to give the money to.  This will be the 18th year that the race happens and we’ve generated more than $6 million for local non-profits,” she said.

This year’s recipients are Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Children’s Place, Cape Cod Theatre Company Home of the Harwich Jr. Theatre, and Dream Day on Cape Cod.

The race attracts approximately 15,000 people.

Corporate and individual driving sponsorships range $2,000 to $10,000 and provide the opportunity to participate in the endurance race, a practice session several weeks before the race, the sponsor dinner and team gifts.

All race donations and sponsorships are sent to The Cape Cod Foundation, which distributes the money to the designated beneficiaries.
