MASHPEE – The 16th Annual Seaside LeMans race at Mashpee Commons yesterday raised $600,000 for local non-profits and charities.
The winner of the four-hour endurance race was the team of Cape Cod Commercial Linen and E.J. Jaxtimer Builders.
Cape Cod Aggregates finished second and Shepley-Anderson, last year’s winner, finished in third.
A total of 18 teams of sponsors and businesses participated in the race which features Formula One-style racing go karts.
9th District Congressman William Keating served as the grand marshal for the race, and asked racers and spectators to remember of the victims of September 11th in his opening remarks.
“As we remember those that lost their lives in 9-11, remember those who lost their lives and were injured as first responders, remember the military protecting us, still,” he said.
Keating also said it was important for the nation to remain united, 15 years later.
“Let’s also remember that image of America coming together, side by side, that we are indeed united. That we are one nation under God,” said Keating.
The beneficiaries of this year’s event are Cape Cod Healthcare, Sail Cape Cod, Homeless not Hopeless, Gosnold on Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network (CapeCodCAN!).
The event has raised over $5 million since its inception in 2001.
