Seasonal New York to Nantucket Air Service Begins Tomorrow

BB_Nantucket_WelcometoNantucketSign_Summer2015NANTUCKET – American Airlines will start up a seasonal, weekend service between New York and Nantucket Saturday, the latest airline to increase their presence in the region during the summer.

American will fly between LaGuardia and Nantucket Memorial Airport on the weekends until Labor Day. The first flight is Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

“Anytime we add a new destination, it’s a major improvement in our quality of air service,” said Airport Manager Tom Rafter. “LaGuardia is tremendous because New York is one of our biggest draws.”

The airline will be flying their 70-seat Embraer 170s to the island.

“We’ve been talking to American for a year or two now about various alternatives and additional destinations and we mentioned different options,” said Rafter. “They did an analysis and finally came back to us with the announcement of the LaGuardia service.”

The move comes six months after the shutdown of Island Airlines, resulting in a loss of passenger and freight service to Nantucket.
