NEW BEDFORD – The Second Half: Lifelong Learning Institute and the New Bedford Whaling Museum are again teaming up this spring to screen a series of maritime themed movies.
The series of eight classic movies about the sea, its creatures and seafaring adventures will be shown on Thursday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. at the museum’s Cook Memorial Theater throughout March, April and May.
The slate of films will kick off March 22 with “Master and Commander.”
After a sneak attack by a French warship inflicts severe damage upon his vessel, Captin “Lucky” Jack Aubrey, played by Russell Crowe, is torn between duty and friendship as he embarks on a thrilling, high stakes chase across two oceans to capture or destroy the enemy.
A film narrated by Ryan Reynolds will be screened on March 29.
“The Whale” is a true story of a young orca named Luna, who makes friends with people after he gets separated from his family on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island.
Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $15 for non-members and can be purchased online at whalingmuseum.org.
Remaining films in April and May include “Mutiny on the Bounty,” “Moby-Dick” and “The Old Man and the Sea.”
