Section of Cape Cod Now in “Extreme Drought” Condition

HYANNIS – A section of Cape Cod is now in an “extreme drought” condition as measured by the United States Drought Monitor.

A portion of the Upper Cape along the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne in Sandwich was placed in the category this week, moving up from “severe drought,” where the rest of the Cape is listed.

The elevated condition means there is the possibility of major crop and pasture losses and widespread water shortages or restrictions.

The extreme drought in Massachusetts now extends from Cape Cod to the North Shore, all of eastern Massachusetts and sections of central and western Massachusetts.
